I could tell from that very first conversation with Lin that he wanted to do a very serious, dramatic rendering. He said he had been reading the book on vacation in Mexico, and hip-hop songs had started rising off the page. I went to a Sunday matinee and then went backstage, and Lin started telling me he wanted to do either a concept album about the life of Alexander Hamilton or, if all went according to plan, it would be his second musical. ![]() In fact it was at the same theater, the Richard Rodgers, where Hamilton is. This would have been during In The Heights? He worked for WaRP Graphics, writing the Elfquest spinoff title Blood of Ten Chiefs with art from a rotating staff of exceptional creators, including his Child's Play artist, Brandon McKinney. During the 90s Andy wrote several comics adaptations for the movies Child's Play, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday The 13th. Fantagraphics editor Kim Thompson obviously liked what he saw in the man's work and hired Andy to write regularly for Amazing Heroes. Andy's checklist was intensely researched, massively detailed, and culled mostly from his own collection. Focus was a career retrospective on George Perez, detailing his work into the late 80s. Her bite and wit is unparallelled, but she is also so incredibly vulnerable. Does she even want to Edgy and gripping, Please Ignore Vera Dietz is an unforgettable novel: smart, funny, dramatic, and always surprising. Initially I wasn't sure about these interruptions, but they're brief enough to not be distracting and both timed and chosen well t to give depth and additional layers to the story. Though Vera is the narrator, Charlie and her father (as well as The Pagoda - don't worry, you'll understand when you read the book) make brief appearances as interjecting narrators. ![]() King writes Vera, as well as the other two narrating characters, with an incredibly distinctive voice. Youc an't keep each others secrets for 18 years without knowing a little something about each other.Ī.S. Several months later, Charlie dies under mysterious and suspicious circumstances, circumstances Vera knows something about. Until Charlie starts hanging out with another group of friends and unceremoniously ditches Vera. Sindy Dietz Sindy Dietz may be Veras mother, but she doesnt have much of a presence in the book. Finally, here it is – my 2012 Clayton’s Shortlist for Older Readers. ![]() 5/29/2023 0 Comments Ant colony deforge![]() ![]() Ant Colony has an interesting look to the art - it’s very colourful, the creatures are designed weirdly, with a dog face for a spider, and a cheerful limo-look to the centipede, and the ants all look like anything but ants - but DeForge’s various rambling plotlines don’t really go anywhere. This was my first Michael DeForge comic and, having now finished it, I’m not encouraged to rush back for more. A couple of gay ants have relationship troubles everyone’s bothered by the repetitive drudgery of their work and the seeming pointlessness of keeping their Queen happy a father gives bad advice to his son regarding an earthworm leading to his son becoming a prophet(!) there’s an ant-hunt to catch a serial-killing spider and war with the red ants, a neighbouring colony, begins.
